Arcadia is a highly affluent incorporated city in the San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles County located at the southern base of the San Gabriel Mountains and the Angeles National Forest. Pasadena, including Chapman Woods, is to the west, Sierra Madre is to the north, Monrovia is to the east, and Temple City and El Monte are to the south.

Big Santa Anita Canyon

Santa Anita Canyon, also known as Big Santa Anita Canyon, is a scenic canyon in the Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel Mountains. The canyon is located north of Sierra Madre and Arcadia in the San Gabriel Valley section of Los Angeles County where easy access is available. The creek within the canyon is known as Santa Anita Creek, and is part of the watershed of the Rio Hondo which flows from the San Gabriel Mountains through the Whittier Narrows to the Los Angeles River. The canyon is a popular place for hiking and viewing its streams, waterfalls, and other beautiful scenery. There are more than 40 miles of trails within Santa Anita Canyon.

 

Santa Anita Park

Santa Anita Park is a thoroughbred racetrack and a major employer in Arcadia. The track is home to the Santa Anita Derby and the Santa Anita Handicap. It has also hosted the Breeder's Cup numerous times over the last twenty years. In early 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the infamous Executive Order 9066 ordering that all American Citizens of Japanese ancestry be removed from their homes and communities for forced incarceration in what was called a "relocation camp". Santa Anita was one of those incarceration facilities housing more than 18,000 American citizens in extremely primitive conditions. In total, more than 120,000 American citizens of Japanese Ancestry were incarcerated in 38 "relocation camps." Most lost their homes, cars, and businesses.

 

Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden

The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, founded in 1947, is a 127 acre arboretum, botanical garden, and historic site located in Arcadia which is in the San Gabriel Valley section of western Los Angeles County. It is the site of Baldwin Lake. The San Gabriel Mountains are to the north and Pasadena is to the west. The gardens are absolutely spectacular.

 

E.J. Baldwin's Queen Anne Cottage

The historical E.J. Baldwin's Queen Anne Cottage was constructed by Elias Jackson Baldwin, also known as Lucky Baldwin, in 1839 adjacent to his residence on the grounds of the Los Angeles County Arboretum in Arcadia. Baldwin's ranch was originally 46,000 acres. The magnificent property is open to the public. It was used strictly for entertainment purposes.

 

Baldwin Lake

Baldwin Lake is a small lake or pond located at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanical Garden in Arcadia, California. The lake is on three sides of Lucky Baldwin's Queen Anne Cottage and Coach Barn which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

 

Arcadia Golf Course

The Arcadia Golf Course is a beautiful 18-hole public golf course that is lighted for night play. It opened in 1962. The course offers a pro-shop, lessons, and practice facilities.

 

Arcadia County Park

Arcadia County Park is a beautiful park located at the southwest intersection of Huntington Drive and S. Santa Anita Avenue, and just north of the Santa Anita Golf Course. The highly popular park features a swimming pool, baseball diamonds, several multipurpose fields, tennis courts, lawn bowling greens, picnic tables, barbeques, a large community room, and lots of green open space with numerous mature shade trees. it is a beautiful park.

 

Peck Road Conservation Park

The Peck Road Conservation Park is an absolutely beautiful passive five acre park in Arcadia that opens into a 210 acre recreation habitat. The park offers a fishing lake, the Rio Hondo Bike Trail, walking paths, and picnic areas. The Peck Road Conservation Park is part of the Emerald Necklace.

 

Bonita Park

Bonita Skate Park

Bonita Park, also known as Bonita Skate Park, is a community park in Arcadia that features a lighted baseball diamond, a large multipurpose field, a children's play area, lots of picnic tables, a large skating area, restrooms, and plenty of green open space.

 

Silver Moccasin Trail

Silver Moccasin Trail is a 53 mile trail that starts at Chantry Flat Recreation Area north of Arcadia in the Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel Mountains. The trail connects Mount BadenPowell, Mount Burnham, Throop Peak, and Mount Hawkins. The trail Reaches to 9,399 feet on Mount Baden-Powell, just below the peak which is at 9,407 feet. The trail ends at Vincent, Gap which is on the Angeles Crest Highway near Wrightwood.

 

Arcadia Historical Society

The mission of the Arcadia Historical Society is to preserve, protect, interpret, and promote community interest in the history of the City of Arcadia and the surrounding areas in the San Gabriel Valley. The Arcadia Historical Society is a non-profit membership organization governed by an elected board of directors.

 

The Gilbert Museum of Arcadia Heritage

The mission of the Gilbert Museum of Arcadia Heritage is to collect, preserve, and recognize Arcadia's heritage, to create a shared identity for a diverse community, and to celebrate its rich history with exhibits and educational programs. The museum is open to the public during limited hours.

 

Arcadia City Library

Arcadia has a full service library with adult, teen, and children's programs available. The library offers tutoring, English classes, films, concerts, discussion groups, computers, and more.

 

Arcadia Chinese Association

The Arcadia Chinese Association (ACA) is a non-profit membership organization established in 1982. The goals of the organization are (1) To seek peace and minimize racism, cultural biases, and racial segregation, (2) To assist Chinese immigrants to assimilate into the American culture and traditions through sponsored events, and (3) To involve the non-Chinese communities in Chinese cultural events in hopes that they will better understand and respect the Chinese culture and traditions.

 

Arcadia Chinese School

Arcadia Chinese School, established in 1981, is a non-profit organization that offers language classes for children who are 4 years and older, plus classes in calligraphy, painting, arts and crafts, music and dancing, Tae Kwon Do, and more.

 

Mayflower Village

Mayflower Village is a residential area and census-designated place (COP) in the San Gabriel Valley region of Southern California. The community is adjacent to Monrovia on the north and Arcadia and Temple City on the west. While not geographically accurate, most residents of Mayflower Village tend to call their home, Arcadia or Monrovia.

 

Chinese Historical Society of Southern California

The Chinese Historical Society of Southern California (CHSSC), established in 1975 in Chinatown, Los Angeles, is a non-profit organization that serves the Chinese communities in Southern California, including those in the San Gabriel Valley, the Conejo Valley, and Orange County. Its mission is to bring together people with a mutual interest in the important history of Chinese and Chinese Americans in Southern California; to pursue, preserve and communicate knowledge of this history; and to promote the heritage of the Chinese and appreciation of our rich, multi-cultural society. CHSSC holds monthly meetings and sponsors regular events. Memberships are available and donations are always welcome.

 

Rancho Azusa de Duarte

Rancho Azusa de Duarte was a 6,596-acre Mexican land grant in present day Los Angeles County given to Andres Duarte by Mexican Governor Juan Alvarado in 1841 Present day cities included in the land grant are Arcadia, parts of Monrovia, Bradbury, Duarte, Irwindale, parts of Azusa, and parts of Baldwin Park. By 1878. Andres Duarte had sold the entire 6,596 acres.
